Dear Friends, Welcome to Sophia’s Notes, the first newsletter from Sophia’s Center for the Healing Arts! Whether you’ve joined for classes already or are learning about us for the first time, I’m glad you’re here. I hope this monthly letter becomes a warm, colorful addition to your inbox and sheds light on the way Sophia’s Center is carrying out its mission: to nurture wisdom of the heart through creative expression in community. The name “Sophia” means “wisdom” in Greek and represents an ancient feminine presence of love. Several weeks ago, a wise friend wrote a blessing to capture this essence, and I wanted to share an excerpt: May Sophia’s Center be a safe and welcoming nest where imagination is awakened, courageous new beginnings are encouraged, where creativity and healing are honored as sacred acts, and each person is received with dignity and love. This blessing ties into my own journey to Sophia’s Center. For over a decade, I’ve held the vision to open a space dedicated to creativity and healing. While I struggled with depression, grief, and psychosis during college, caring therapists and loved ones encouraged me to devote my energy to the “sacred acts” of writing, imaginative artmaking, and yoga. Returning to these practices again and again helped me alchemize feelings of sorrow, fear, and shame into experiences of peace, courage, and compassion. In my personal and professional life, I have learned that when we allow the body and mind to creatively express themselves without pressure or judgement, we connect with an intrinsic, heart-centered wisdom. Whether you are grieving a loss, struggling with burnout, trapped in anxiety, or seeking inspiration, Sophia’s Center is “a safe and welcoming nest,” a third space, where you can gently connect with yourself and others. In the coming weeks and months, I welcome your questions, suggestions, encouragement, and prayers as Sophia’s Center lives into its mission. You can support our programs by choosing the “pay it forward rate” when registering for offerings, purchasing a gift card, or by becoming an “Impact Partner.” It’s essential that cost is not a barrier to anyone seeking creative expression in community, and your support helps make reduced-rates and free offerings possible.
